Over the course of the programme Beth encouraged and taught me the importance of using the breath, how to reflect and focus. I have learned that with a 'Beginner’s Mind' (lying down, sitting, kneeling and using counting to focus on the breath), it is possible to accept when my mind wanders and instead of becoming frustrated and stopping or giving up, I can gently but firmly return to the breath. I can now also use this technique when my mind becomes too busy with thoughts and feelings which threaten to overwhelm me at times. Beth also introduced the group to the work of Mark Williams, Jon Kabat Zinn and Pema Chodron and, through the links on her handouts, to other learned people.
I cannot recommend this course highly enough. The knowledge Beth has and her gift for sharing are amazing.
I cannot begin to thank you enough for the changes your mindfulness sessions have made to all aspects of my life. I now have a time, early in the morning, that I dedicate to my practices. This has become so important to me, it allows me to benefit from your teaching and it is also the time I most enjoy and look forward to. My ongoing practices help me to continue your work, and have built my confidence in my own ability to cope with situations, and deal with my thoughts, just to let them come and go, concentrating on my all important breathing.
You brought different aspects of mindfulness and meditation into each one of our sessions. It was all so thought provoking and helped me appreciate how important this was to my health and well-being. I find that so many of the practices you taught me, I now do without realising, using them in difficult or hurtful situations - all so important in the stressful world that we are living in at the moment. Beginner's mind, acceptance, patience and non-striving are just four of the mindful attitudes, that I keep coming back to and are an important work in progress for me.
With your guidance and help, I am slowly beginning to enjoy the self-guided practices and love the silence. You gave me so many useful tools: the print outs, recordings and extra resources, helped me so much with my personal practices. The balance at our sessions between meditating, mindfulness and discussions was perfect. Each week of the course has brought a different level of calmness and happiness into my life, helping me to appreciate so many things I had taken for granted. I now bring mindfulness into my walks, when preparing and eating food and so many other daily activities. You have given me the ability, through mindfulness, to notice my body's response to negative thoughts and feelings and breathing into them to reduce my anxiety and stress levels, to have better quality sleep and to be less judgmental, especially to myself.
You shared so much of your amazing knowledge with me, and I will always be so thankful and grateful to you.
I quickly learned that in order to gain any benefit from the course I had to practise. You started slowly, enabling me to build confidence in my own ability, to let my thoughts come and go by focusing on my breathing. Each week brought a different aspect of mindfulness, and a different way of meditating - so very thought provoking - I just loved it.
The handouts and extra information enabled me to access a range of meditations, talks and ideas to help with my practices. The whole process of the course was really well structured, enjoyable and rewarding from beginning to end. I benefited greatly from all the sessions and as the weeks went on I found myself bringing your mindfulness teachings and suggestions into my daily life without any prompting.
I felt I had gained the skill of acceptance and the ability to pay more attention and see more clearly what is happening in my life, and to be able to respond to it in a calmer manner. I now pay much more conscious attention to the wonderful things in my everyday life, especially when out walking.
Just a great big thank you for introducing me to mindfulness and guiding me through each week.
I have been fortunate enough to have been guided by Beth in mindfulness sessions for several years and have found the experience to be positive and life-enhancing. Beth has always adopted a compassionate approach, combined with useful hints and tips for both our group and for individuals. With Beth’s humour and encouragement, we have all enjoyed sharing and occasionally laughing about putting our learning into practice. Her blended approach to theory and practice has made it interesting, educational and very helpful. I regularly practise what I’ve learnt from Beth to manage the stresses of daily life. I know others would benefit from her supervision and support.
Having Beth lead and teach us in mindfulness practice over the last four years has been wonderful. She makes the practices accessible and is so kind and generous in her approach. I have benefited hugely from her teaching and I would recommend her to anyone that wants to start out in mindfulness or deepen their practice.
Beth's sessions helped me through treatment last year. In January 2021, I was diagnosed with a malignant lump and told there would be surgery, chemotherapy and then radiotherapy. I was very scared of the unknown and feel I came through it all so calmly with mindfulness sessions led by the wonderful, caring Beth with her dulcet tone of voice, and all delivered via Zoom.
Particularly helpful was using the Lake visualisation, which enabled me to remove myself mentally from the various physical treatments being done over many months. I am sure I would never have dealt with it all without Beth’s excellent guidance and motivating sessions.
Mindfulness is great as a coping mechanism to deal with the bad stuff life can throw at you.
Thank you so much, Beth
The information and handouts you supplied were invaluable. These have and continue to help with my own journey and, are a great source of reference for me. Striking the balance between meditation, discussion and information giving was helpful…. It also assisted me in reflecting and focusing, following each session in gradually giving myself 'permission' to just be in the moment.
I found working with difficulty beneficial once I had time to reflect and challenge my thoughts and feelings. It wasn't and hasn't been easy, but I have found some semblance of peace within myself and am continuing to work on this. Focusing on the breath even when not practising the meditations has become part of my daily routine and helping me to just be.
I would just like to thank you for all of the mindfulness sessions that you have delivered in person and via zoom for the past few years. I find the different themes very interesting and through practice am finding mindfulness to be extremely useful in balancing the challenges of being a working mum in a stressful job. Of course, I am a work in progress but I am ok with this and I think the practice of mindfulness has helped me to really change my mindset.
